FreedomPop is making waves in the Internet and Mobile industry, with their offers of “Freemium” service, which means that they offer free plans with upgrades available to premium plans. They don’t work well for very high usage, but are great, cost-effective plans for light to average users of the internet.
The best plans from FreedomPop, in our opinion, are the FreedomPop Burst Home Internet plans — they are far less expensive than the ones we will highlight on this page. Make sure you look at those plans first if what you want is internet in your home. The plans on this page might appeal to people with special mobile requirements.
FreedomPop Mobile offers several plans on three mobile devices. The devices are a USB stick you can pop into a mobile computer, a mobile hotspot you can take with you and an unique, but highly specialized ipod device.
Freedompop is also a partner with Connect2Compete (EveryoneOn.org), and if you qualify by living in one of the 14,000 zip codes with a median income under $35,000, you are eligible for a special Connect2Compete offer, but we question if the deals are actually better deals.
FreedomPop Mobile Plans
With all the plans below, you will get either 4G (Clearwire network) or 3G (Sprint network) mobile speeds, depending upon what is being served in the area you are in. There is no long term contract and you can change plans whenever you want.
Free: With the purchase of any device, you can have up to 500 MB (one-half a gigabyte) of data usage per month. No strings if you don’t go over your allowance. Other than purchasing the device, it’s completely free. Additional Data: $0.02 per MB/month.
Connect2Compete Free: This is the same plan as the Basic plan (above), but you get only 300MB allowance per month rather than 500MB, with the purchase of any device. That sounds like a worse deal, but you get your device for only $29.95 (although Connect2Compete does not say which device). In addition, FreedomPop cannot automatically charge you if you hit your usage limit; they have to send you an approval for increasing it (buying more usage). Additional Data: $0.02 per MB/month.
Basic: Purchase any device and get 1GB (double the 500 MB free plan) of data usage per month for $9.99/month. Additional Data: $0.01 per MB/month, half the price for additional data for the Free plan.
Casual: Get 2GB of data usage per month. It’s not alot, but it will serve you needs if you are a light web user and don’t watch too many videos. $17.99/month and additional data is $0.01 per MB/month.
Connect2Compete Casual: This is the same plan as the Casual plan (above), but you have to pay $2 per month more for it, with the purchase of any device. While you pay more each month, you do get a device for only $29.95 (not sure which device). Additional Data: $0.01 per MB/month. In addition, FreedomPop cannot automatically charge you if you hit your usage limit; they have to send you an approval for increasing it (buying more usage). Is it a better deal? It’s questionable.
Premiere 5GB: This plan gives you 5GB of data per month. That’s a decent amount if you aren’t watching videos, but it’s not cheap. $34.99. Additional Data: $0.01 per MB/month.
Premiere 10GB: FreedomPop’s highest usage mobile plan gives you 10GB of data per month. But you’re really paying for it at $59.99/month. Additional Data: $0.01 per MB/month.
You can keep tabs on your data usage in your account section of FreedomPop.com. No need to purchase the add-on data usage email alert for $1.99 a month, if you remember to check.
FreedomPop Mobile Devices
You’ve got your choice of quite a few devices that work with any plan above. We don’t include prices below because they subject to change as new models are introduced and others go on sale. You’ll have to check pricing on their site after entering your zip code and address as you check for services and model available to you.
Popular Mini Tablets: Features a beautiful 7.9-inch display, the A5 chip, ultrafast wireless, and up to 10 hours of battery life.

As we said at the top of this page, these mobile plans are significantly more expensive than the FreedomPop home internet plans. If you are going to use the internet at home go directly to the FreedomPop Home Internet page and save yourself a bunch of money.
But if you must be mobile, then consider the plans on this page. If you need mobile only for infrequent occasions, the Basic (free) plan could work out well for you.
We should also point out that competitor NetZero also has a set of mobile plans called 4G Mobile Broadband that you might want to compare.

Freedompop was bought out by Red Pocket Mobile recently. They have a yearly service postpaid plan of 5 GB data at 4G speed for $149.99 (or about $12.50 per month). They offer GSM and CDMA service (they piggyback on the other major networks). You can also bring your own device (BYOD) as long as it is unlocked. Their website displays several hotspot models, but all of the GSM types are out of stock.
The parent company, Red Pocket Mobile also offers a monthly 5 GB plan at $25 per month and you can BYOD. They also have other data plans with lower and higher data limits.

I have a small Freedom pop hotspot device that I bought from you sometime back. I didn’t activate it nor did I know how else I put it into use. Home internet price is unaffordable these days and wanted to check with you for either a free or cheapest price for a low income senior.

You didn’t buy it from us. We’re not FreedomPop. You need to contact that company using the contact info we provide in the article above.

The problem, Roberta, is that we are not your service provider. We are a website that is not affiliated with any of the low-income service providers. Your service provider will neither see nor respond to messages you leave here at CheapInternet.com. To repeat, we are a source of information, not a service provider.
