CheapInternet.com and Connecting for Good seem to be in complete agreement on the need for services like theirs. They say, “At Connecting for Good, we believe Internet connectivity, free training and inexpensive computers create opportunities for under resourced people to better their lives through education, employment and community involvement.” If you’ve spent much time at Cheap Internet, you’ll quickly understand that our philosophy precisely lines up with theirs.
The organization just opened the doors of its first community technology center in NE Wyandotte County. And take it from us, this is an area that will really appreciate what Connecting for Good is bringing to the neighborhood because they desperately need these services.
Some stats that quickly demonstrate what we mean: Forty-six percent of NE Wyandotte County residents earn less than $20,000 per year. And to make matters even worse, the area’s crime rate is approximately double the national average.
Connecting for Good offers internet services that go beyond what cash-rich national companies currently offer. In addition to offering free wifi access, this forward-thinking non-profit also makes available free twice a week basic digital skills classes plus daily one-on-one tutoring. But the news gets even better: Once you’ve joined the program, you can get a high-quality refurbished computer for only $75.00.
But Connecting for Good doesn’t stop there. They understand the other economic and social factors that hold back residents of the NE Wyandotte County community, so they teamed up with other agencies and now offer literacy training, GED completion classes, and other employment assistance programs.
They’ve also put their money where their mouth is by building a free wifi network that covers more than 300 low-income families residing at Juniper Gardens, the oldest and largest public housing project in Kansas. Even better, the network isn’t restricted to Juniper Gardens. It extends beyond the complex and makes internet available to anyone within a four block area.
Can you help Connecting for Good?
Remarkably, Connecting for Good does all this great work with no government funds nor large foundation grants. That’s why they need your help.
The organization needs to raise $5,000 to reach its summer fundraising goal. They’ve already raised $2000 and need $1,500 more to continue their good work. They’re looking for individuals, groups or organizations that can each write a check for $50.
We realize that $50 is a lot of money for a lot of our readers. More, in fact, than most of them can afford. But if you can find the kindness in your heart and the cash in your wallet, we urge you to donate, easily done at their GoFundMe campaign page. We can’t think of a better cause.
And that’s why CheapInternet.com has already sent a $50 check to Connecting for Good.
