Don’t qualify for the low-income plans? These internet service providers offer fast internet plans from as low as $9.95 a month. Even free plans for light users.
If you do not qualify for any of the low-income internet programs available, and you cannot afford any of the expensive standard internet plans that can run you anywhere from $40 – $60 a month, there are still other inexpensive options that may work for you. There are even some absolutely free internet plans, believe it or not.
The internet service providers listed below will be able to give you a cheap wireless internet connection from as low as $9.95 a month (or free). And these are not teaser rates — they are the normal monthly rates.
FreedomPop Home Internet
FreedomPop offers both premium and free plans. The premium plans begin at $9.95 month, and are designed for light to moderate internet users. The technology is wireless and is distributed to up to ten computers as a wireless hotspot you simply plug into a home electrical outlet. If you are a very light user–checking emails and web pages–you can most likely utilize their free plan, as long as you don’t go over a the 1 GB per month data usage allowance. Read more…
FreedomPop Mobile Internet
While the mobile plans from FreedomPop are more expensive than the Home Internet plans, we’re including them for those that must utilize a mobile device. The plans cost $17.99 and $29.99, but take note that there is absolutely free plan for light usage (other than a one-time purchase of a USB stick or hotspot device. Read more…
NetZero DSL
Netzero, shaking off it’s history of dial-up access, offers three plans of DSL internet at affordable prices. While higher than the FreedomPop Home Internet plans (above), it’s real DSL (over your landline wiring, but fast) and there are no data usage caps. If you can get by with very light usage, with the purchase of a cheap USB stick or hotspot device, the company will give you a small amount of data usage per month. No strings attached if you don’t go over your allowance. Read more…
NetZero 4G Mobile Broadband
If you must have mobile Internet, NetZero 4G Mobile Broadband might be the answer. You’ll purchase either a USB stick or a portable wireless hub and then pay for a plan starting at $9.95 per month. There is also a very light free plan offered as well. It’s a small amount of data, but it is free (other than the one-time cost of either a USB Stick or wireless hub).Read more…
Karma’s “Social Bandwidth” Internet
This internet plan is different than the others. You begin by purchasing your $79 personal hotspot device, which gives you 1GB of bandwidth. After that it’s $10 – $14 per GB of use. But, you can also earn free internet usage by sharing your hotspot with family, friends and even strangers — you may get free internet forever!
Basic-Internet.com
Basic-Internet.com is an internet service provider that offers low-cost, high-speed internet services to help bridge the digital divide. The service uses the T-Mobile network and provides Internet services throughout the United States and Canada wherever that network is available. It offers two plans: One for $10 per month and another, more robust plan for $20 per month. Read more…
Discontinued Programs
4GCommunity.org Internet
4GCommunity internet service costs more than subsidized programs like Comcast’s Internet Essentials or Access from AT&T, and it’s slightly more expensive than PCs for People, but it’s a terrific option if you don’t qualify for those low-income plans. And while it’s more expensive than other low-income plans, it’s a lot less expensive than more typical internet plans that cost and arm, a leg, and a spleen. Read more…
And If You’re Low-Income…

Sandra says
with doing away with land lines, ( I’m for), I’m in a area with poor signals and a tower was installed but no one can still get signals. Family visits and only one bar. Why don’t companies push for good service and get this area working? People have begged and nothing. We have to pay high prices and it doesn’t work on cell phones, internet not the best and yet you give free when we have worked hard to support ourselves. Can’t get a cell phone, as it doesn’t work here. Company I have now is too expensive and I can’t go on. Come Sept. I’ll probably be no contact with the world as I can’t afford these high prices and pay for living. Told I make too much so saying my warning as I see others who have also worked hard and same situation. Already no cable, cell, and internet is lifeline to world. Hopes some company comes with a strong service and will have people out here jump on board.
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
We’re behind you 100%, Sandra.

I am a disabled veteran requiring a CapTel phone. The CapTel phone provides me with closed captioning enabling me to use the phone.. Criteria for this phone is high-speed internet & landline. I am caught between a rock & hard place. Can you help me?

Hi!,
Unfortunately, 4GCommunity is shutting down. her4e is a statement from their site:
We are saddened to inform you that due to circumstances beyond the organization’s control the Internet connectivity benefit of membership has ended.
The member online support center will remain a resource through this time next year. Member and support team volunteers will be providing their general assistance with questions about basic home computing, networking, and related technologies. It can be accessed through the Support Center page of the website.
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
Everything is correct except the verb tense you used, Rainy. Instead of “is shutting down,” you should have said, “has shut down.” Here’s an article we ran on the organization last November:

I tentatively signed up for 4GCommunity in July of this year, since you pay for the service one year in advance, & was not sorry that I did. Customer service was wonderful, & the service worked well. As of this week, they have posted a note on their homepage stating that “due to circumstances beyond their control,” all members service will be terminated no later than 11/30, maybe even sooner. It says nothing about why, or what will happen to the member’s entire year of payment we all paid in advance, or the money paid for a mobile hotspot I now will not be able to use. I cannot even tell you how disappointing this is- I was so happy to have found the answer to my internet needs (thanks to you guys for posting, by the way!) I posted an inquiry last night on their support page- no reply as of yet……..I hope you guys will post any info your able to find out re:what happened, the possibility of them re-activating service, etc….
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
Wow. 4GCommunity posted an almost identical message on its homepage, so we assume the issue has something to do with the fact that they both use the Sprint network, but we will look into it and see if we can get your questions answered, Jennifer.
Jennifer says
The info I was quoting did indeed come from 4GCommunity’s homepage- So could you clarify what you meant when you said, “4GCommunity posted an almost identical message on its homepage, so we assume the issue has somethhttp://www.techsoup.org/mobile-beaconing to do with the fact that they both use the Sprint network.”’ Who is “they?” Is there another company offering the same/similar service? I think I read on an older thread that 4G was an offset of another company called Mobile Beacon- it is basically the exact same setup, but is only for non- profits, libraries or charities.(Their website is techsoup.org, in case you guys have a section on this site for non-profits/businesses,.) Bottom line is.. If I (we) could afford to throw away over $400 for 3 months of internet, more than likely I wouldn’t need your site! Thanks again for replying & I will look for updates! Thanks!
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
A bit of a mis-wording on our part, Jennifer.
You should check out PCs for People, which also works on the Sprint network. They are great people with customers in all fifty states. They just told us they are in the process of expanding their services. Good luck.

CheapInternet.com Administrator says
We are unaware of any low-income cable TV plans, Shannon.
Sandra says
Can I use this 9.95 /mo to stream movies and shows on my Tv, too?
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
These plans are designed for basic internet service, Sandra. The companies are very quiet about how much internet they offer, but we’ll give you one example. One company, which shall remain nameless, claims to offer “unlimited” internet. While that is true, they only offer high speed internet for the first gigabyte. After that they “throttle” the speed, which slows it down so much that it will not be practical to use for streaming movies.
Henry Murphy says
Do any of this services work in Algeries 70014
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
There’s no way for us to track things down to the zip code level, Henry. But you can find out for sure by calling customer service at the various companies. And if you visit their websites, some of them offer functions that allow you to plug in your address or zip code to find out if they offer service in your area.

CheapInternet.com Administrator says
Just for clarification purposes, Rose, are you looking for a low-income internet plan?
Connie McClain says
If a person is eligable for one of these cheap internet plans; can they get home phone service too?
CheapInternet.com Administrator says
Absolutely, Connie. The low-income internet plans are operated by private companies (or non-profits) and are not part of the Lifeline phone service. Lifeline offers free cell phones and discounted home service. Of course, when you have internet service, you can place most of your calls over the internet, so you might not even need a home phone.

I am not sure if anyone on this blog lives in CA. I do, I have been barely making ends meet, solely because of COMCAST,. I signed up for the $99. triple play package 4-5 years ago, I am disability, trying to survive Stage 4 Breast Cancer, along with other illnesses, every 2 months they take close to $500.00 out of my bank, so other bills go unpaid, eating is a treat. I have gone round and round with Comcast, they have deleted channels, removed “so called” other services, but by the time i get my next bill, they somehow find Mystery Fees, and the next bill becomes higher. If anyone knows an actual Person that can help me get out of this endless cycle, it would be a life saver. Also, when i first signed up with them, I was supposed to get a $300.00 visa card, Never got that, and you know how they advertise, if they Miss an appt. they pay you $30. that happened 6 times, never heard anything from them, not even to say sorry they missed the appt. I live alone, so i do have my t.v. on, a lot. If Only someone that works for the C.E.O. knew what people like myself have to deal with, maybe things would change for the Better??

I live in central NJ, and have Comcast, because even though Verizon is an option, there is no Verizon Fios here and so the product is really slow. I don’t qualify for a low income plan, but I just do not want to support Comcast (we do not have television, but do a have a land line, but the bundles are largely not worth it to us). What we do need is a fast, reliable internet provider. Recommendations?

I am currently unemployed.. Live in Newark, Delaware which is serviced by Verizon and Comcast. In order to qualify for the cheap Comcast I need to have a child living with me, which I do not.
Do you know of a cheap or free internet provider for a person that is currently unemployed. I am part of the SNAP program and receive medicare benefits

Can’t say we know if it’s in your area or not, but you can try Internet Basics.

I have clear also. They did the same to me. They stated when you sign up you agree to a price but the fine print lets you know it is subject to change. I had my service for about 6months and it got a $10 increase. I blame myself for not reading the fine print. However I have learned from this not to leave out the fine print.

What is the reason they gave you for the increase in the charge?

I am a single mother in school, and my average montly income totals about $500.00 per month, so I can not afford expensive internet.
